HOW A SPLIT SYSTEM WORKS

A split system consists of two units: one for inside the home or building, and one for the exterior. Each unit carries out different cooling tasks. The indoor unit is usually mounted on the wall in the room that needs to be cooled. The indoor unit contains a fan, a cooling coil, and an air filter.

The corresponding outdoor unit is installed outside the room that needs cooling. This unit contains a condenser coil, a compressor, and an expansion coil. The indoor and the outdoor units are connected through refrigerant tubing, a power connection, a condensate drain, and suction tubing.
